I'm Okay!

This video cracks me up. I’ve seen it 18 times and, if I were to watch again right now, would laugh like it was the first time all over again. He’s just so flippin’ cute, this kid.

But in my unnervingly, annoying constant introspection, I see something deeper in the video. This kid is so excited to be dressed up and ready to face the world. And then, he falls flat on his face. Without hesitation, he yells “I’m ok!”

All right, I know you’re thinking, “where are you going with this?” But if we could remember this in our own adult lives, imagine how much we would accomplish. If only we spent less time thinking about how we fell and more time about how we will right it, we would have many more successes.

We put so much time and thought into how we want to be perceived. We get ready and face the world. And then, sometimes we fall flat on our face.

The sad truth is that someone is always waiting to see this happen. Someone, without the courage to take a risk, will be waiting to watch you fall. Don’t be afraid to fall, because someone is taking note of how you recover. And that’s when you realize your real strength.

My mom introduced me to the song “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” by Whitney Houston. It’s become somewhat of a theme song for me. The words so poignantly say “I crashed down and I tumbled, but I did not crumble…I didn’t know my own strength.”

Sometimes, we learn the depth of our strength when we have no option but to use it. I have had the pleasure to see some amazing comebacks. After a devastating fall, I have seen many graceful recoveries.

I realize that might be a little deep for this video. But underneath it all, there’s a wonderful message of hope and encouragement. Once you fall on your face, just yell “I’m Okay,” and believe that you are. Someone will always be there to help you up, laugh with you and maybe even take a picture. But in the end, most people forget the fall and remember the recovery.

But on the surface? Yea, just a funny video!
